Senior Innovation Lead – Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging

Closing date: 22.11.19 at 23:59

Experienced Senior Innovation Lead required to join UKRI working on the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging programme.

This role will be in the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) team, reporting into the Deputy Challenge Director, where you will be working on the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging challenge (SSPP). This challenge is focused on establishing the UK as a leading innovator in smart and sustainable plastic packaging for consumer products, delivering cleaner growth across the supply chain, with a dramatic reduction in plastic waste entering the environment by 2025.

A Senior Innovation Lead will lead Innovate UK activity in SSPP and ensure appropriate innovations can be developed and exploited by UK business to generate growth and in response to industrial challenges and commercial opportunities. You will be working with business, the research base, the Knowledge Transfer Network, European Enterprise Network, Government Departments, Devolved Administrations, Research Councils, venture capitalists and other key partners to tackle the challenge of plastic pollution in the environment through the development of a more sustainable plastic packaging value chain in the UK.

In order to succeed you’ll need to possess commercial awareness and a proven ability to manage competing priorities to deliver a complex programme to time and budget. The ability to demonstrate achievement of results through influencing skills and negotiations rather than direct control is also crucial. You will be degree-educated in a subject relevant to the SSPP Challenge alongside a strong background in the plastics packaging supply chain. You will also possess a demonstrable experience of liaising with a variety of stakeholders who have competing priorities. This is a field-based role therefore you’ll need to be able to travel across the UK frequently.
