UK Research & Innovation’s Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging (SSPP) Challenge, delivered by Innovate UK, will be at the Packaging Innovations 2025 next month (Stand L50, Feb 12 & 13, Birmingham NEC) and members of the SSPP team and Innovate UK Business Connect colleagues working in sustainable polymers will be on the stand.

As the largest and most ambitious UK government investment to date in sustainable plastics research and innovation, the SSPP Challenge is focused on stimulating a step change in the UK’s ability to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic packaging. The stand will showcase the range of exciting research and innovation projects it has funded since 2019. From cutting edge recycling technologies to novel bio-derived packaging materials, and from major advances in reuse and refill to the latest in AI-powered sorting and more, these projects exemplify the power of innovation in shaping a more sustainable future for plastic packaging.

The stand will showcase the 80+ research and innovation projects the Challenge has funded since 2020, including a display wall of 30 project case studies which can be download here as a PDF. From cutting edge recycling technologies to novel bio-derived packaging materials, and from major advances in reuse and refill to the latest in AI-powered sorting and more, these projects exemplify the power of innovation in shaping a more sustainable future for plastic packaging.
