The prestigious Royal Institution in London was the venue for the recent Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging (SSPP) Summit 2023, bringing together over 100 stakeholders from across the plastic packaging supply chain and beyond.
Organised by UKRI’s Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge, the day included the announcement of the winners of the Challenge’s latest £3.2 million Future Plastic Packaging Solutions II competition. The 17 winning projects will deliver research and innovation across the spectrum of sustainable plastics, from plant-based biodegradable polymers to reuse and refill systems, novel recycling technologies, and plastic pollution mapping. Find out more about the projects here.
The day also featured discussion and debate on the UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution and the role of plastics in a Net Zero future, with contributors including WWF and the Zero Carbon Forum.
The Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Summit 2023 event recording will be shared over the next few weeks, so stay tuned.
