Paul is Challenge Director for the SSPP Challenge programme and is passionate about creating a more sustainable blueprint for the way plastics are made and used. He has over 20 years’ experience in the field of plastics, most recently with SABIC where he was responsible for European market development for flexible packaging resins and was active in driving forward both mechanical and chemical recycling solutions for plastics packaging. Prior to joining SABIC, Paul spent 11 years at WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) running a number of major plastics recycling programmes including the development of food grade HDPE and PP recycling capacity in the UK. He has a degree in Materials Science and Technology from Brunel University and a PhD in PET processing from Loughborough University.
Paul is responsible for setting strategic direction of the SSPP Challenge, ensuring that the portfolio of projects is balanced and tackles the key barriers to the development of a more sustainable future for plastic packaging. He works with industry stakeholders, government departments and NGOs to ensure that the role and value of innovation to help resolve the “plastics problem” is understood and incorporated into future thinking.
